If you’re completely new to crits, you might not know much of what to expect. Criteriums are high speed races, usually in downtown, urban areas, with lots of turns. It’s the exact opposite of a Tour de France long mountain climb, or your local Gran Fondo.

In order to do well, you need a strong aerobic and anaerobic engine. Put simply, you need the biggest engine possible, but one that can also handle surges and accelerations. 

 

EVOQ Criterium Racing Coaching Program

Our coaching program will specifically prepare you for Criterium Racing and will get you primed so that you are ready for early attacks, mid-race breakaways, and the final sprint! We need to figure out your weaknesses, and see if those will be a major detriment to your success. For example, if your sprint is by far your weakest link, do we boost that up a bit, or focus more on breakaway power, FTP and a massive VO2Max watt bomb to detonate with 2 laps to go? On the other hand, maybe your FTP isn’t a strength; let’s stack the chips with repeated VO2max attacks or fined tuned anaerobic capacity instead, allowing you to attack over and over in the last quarter of the race, getting away in a small group, and having enough sprint to win from a group of 5.

How Does The Training Program Work?

Like all of our coaching programs, our Crit Focused Training includes daily workouts specifically tailored to your strengths and weaknesses to make sure you are in the best position possible for your big events. This is not a crit racing template or some cookie cutter plan. 

Every athlete is different and requires a different training approach. We take the time to get to know each athlete with our comprehensive evaluation and power file analyses. 

Our expert coaches program workouts on your free Training Peaks account. Then, we follow up and communicate on EVERY WORKOUT to ensure you are executing them properly. Weekly check-ins ensure the big picture targets are being hit and adjustments are made to your training plan if “real-life” sometimes gets in the way.

Depending on the level of coaching you select for this plan, Zoom Calls are a great way to have ALL of your questions answered at all times. The more you are able to invest in your training and racing, the more we can invest in you!
